Currumbin, my little piece of paradise

Currumbin is situated midway between Coolangatta and Burleigh Heads on the Gold Coast.

Hmm really? Means nothing to most tourists. Is it near the theme parks? nope; any glitter strip precinct? no again; Big shopping centres where you can get lost for the day? No but don't leave yet!

Most don’t even think of Currumbin, its beach and surroundings when they think of the Gold Coast. Yet if you live here like I do, then you have little reason to go to the “flashier” parts of the GC. We have it all..the beaches, restaurants, cafes, the views, but best of all, we have the ambience…

Wake up early and go for a lazy paddle on the surfboard at Currumbin alley or grab the paddle board and head up Currumbin creek estuary.

When you need that caffeine fix, your choices are endless. Try Elephant Rock Cafe, The Beach Shack and The Deck whilst further up the estuary, check out Cafe By The Bridge and the Iron and Resin Garage at Currumbin Waters.

When the tummy starts to rumble, let’s look at our lunch choices .The area has numerous cheap options. Find a spot along the river banks and settle for a picnic or claim a free public BBQ, endulging with a cleansing beer or wine to go with the meat and salad.

Maybe grab a burger or fish and chips from the many takeaways, with a quick visit to the bottlo to wash it down.

Feeling a bit more up market? Head to the Currumbin Vikings Surf Club, right on the beach and eat with the smell of salt air in your nostrils. Maybe hang around for the afternoon, grab a cocktail and witness a beautiful sunset.

If you are looking for ways to spend an afternoon, check out some Currumbin key touristy spots.

The Surf Museum, Superbee Honeyworld and the world famous Currumbin Sanctuary are very close to public transport. I have been fortunate enough to visit all 3 many times and always leave feeling lucky to have these so close to where i live.

Come dinner time, we have plenty of restaurants choose from. If you like a taste of fine dining, you can't go past Allure for the french buffs and Hanasaki Teppanyaki for those who like japanese teppanyaki style. And the beauty is these restaurants are next door to each other.

For those on a smaller budget, Alleys at Currumbin RSL offers great family dining with fantastic river views, whilst La Bocca also based at Currumbin RSL, serves up some of the best pizzas on the Gold Coast. The Elephant Rock Cafe have both lunch and dinner menus, with quality food and great views.

I hope my love of currumbin has piqued your interest and you decide to pay a visit next time you are on the Gold Coast. Come for the day but better still, stay awhile as there are plenty of 3 and 4 star accommodation options.
